Question StarGo and SkySafari 7

SkySafari 7 interacts with StarGo differently than discussed in the StarGo manual, sec. 4.4, p. 63.  When I connect my tablet running SkySafari 7, it immediately knows that it is pointing to the NCP, no need to use the star on the southern horizon trick.  The immediate problem that I'm seeing is that the controls on the keypad don't work, nor do the RA/Dec motion controls on the SkySafari screen.
Does anyone have experience with this, or any suggestions?

Partly I found the answer. You must first connect the mount to a computer using the normal method. When this is done, then start SkySafari on your tablet or phone, connect as usual. It will automatically know where the mount is pointed. At that point, you can disconnect the computer and use SkySafari to slew to targets and move the mount manually. The keypad also works.
