Linear StarGO wrong polarity? was created by Froeng
Hello,
I have been soldering a new cable for my LINEAR mount to connect directly to my 12v battery. I had done this before without problem. This time, it seems I have connected the cable with the wrong polarity as the mount does not react anymore. The little red light does not start flashing. Have I just destroyed my StarGO unit? Or is there a fuse inside I can change? Please let me know urgently! Many Thanks, Frank

The first control that you can perform is to check if the O.S. is still able to assign a COM PORT to the StarGo. This check is pretty easy to carry on, the procedure is shown in the video tutorial linked below. This procedure must be performed with the StarGo powered on and connected via USB to the PC.

If the operative system is still able to assign a com port to the board, even if the StarGo led doesn't blink anymore, the unit may be still "alive".

In this case you can try to reload the firmware as shown the video tutorial available at this link. This procedure must be performed with the StarGo powered on and connected via USB to the PC as well.

If you can establish a connection and reload the firmware, the board was probably only apparently "dead" and at the end of the procedure the red link will start to blink again.

In case you cannot establish a connection with the StarGo, you can try to replace the 3A fuse circled in orange in the attached picture.

Try to perform the suggested checks and let us know about.

Thank you Stefano, the first method had no result unfortunately. So I ordered a 3A fuse as per your description. After it arrived today, I disassembled the StarGO unit (see photos attached) and changed the fuse. This was a little bit scary but actually not too difficult. Et voila! It works again. So my LINEAR has been saved from stupidy by the little saviour in the last image!
This is good to know for future reference...Again, thank you very much for your help! All the BestFrank

...just a final quick update. I had to re-install the starGO driver on the mount, but after that evrything worked flawlessly, including Wifi and USB connections.
Many Thanks again for the quick help!
